While quietly having lunch overlooking Lake Washington, four Seattle women involved in high tech companies talked about the current sad state of women involved in technological industries and companies.
They saw other women start their IT careers, then suddenly drop out for no good reason.
They saw women in personal turmoil about choosing to raise a family rather that follow their passion for an IT career because they didn’t think they had the choice.
They saw women floundering because they didn’t have a career guidance or not take the right classes in school!
These women, Barb, Kate, Faye and Marcy, decided to work together to try to make an impact in their community and show women that they can make an impact at home, work and in their community.
Inspired and guided by Gail Mercer McKay the founder of the International Association of Microsoft Channel Partners’ Women in Technology Program (IAMCP-WIT) in Canada, these four ladies organized IAMCP WIT Seattle Community in December 2013.
IAMCP WIT Seattle’s focus is to support women already in IT, women that are just entering the workforce, and those that are young up-and-comers. The emphasis will be best practices around professional development, community involvement and mentorship.
Join us! IAMCP WIT Seattle is looking for members and meets monthly. We encourage women from all levels of technology and leadership offer advice and share their journey and dreams.
